I had to do a loop of the whole Food and Fashion Handmade markets despite being there for one purpose. At first it seemed like the same set of stalls- jams, chocolate, cupcakes and more cupcakes, but then a new macaron stall caught my eye. Lu’mon macarons had a nice simple clean set up but what made me smirk and come back and get something even though I was running crazily late for my lunch date was there unique flavours.

They had a variety of flavours but I was going to skip out on the ‘boring’ flavours and just grab those which were unique to this store and of course a salted butter caramel as a measuring stick.

Macarons honeycomb, iced vovo, salted butter caramel, snickers, red skins and bubblegum (not shown) 6 for $15.00.

Snickers: EXACTLY like the chocolate bar, you wouldn’t even have to tell me what the flavour was.

Honeycomb: this had a honeycomb centre which was a pleasant surprise.

Salted butter caramel: Not THE best but definitely up there.

Red skins: wow, I was amazed how this flavour to be so dead on but have such a different texture to the candy.

Bubblegum: more for Timmy than me but I could appreciate the taste and the likeness.

Iced vovo: since all the other flavours were so great, I was looking foward to this one the most and left it til last. Sadly the raspberry component tasted medicinal and it was the worst flavour out of the 6.

Wonderful textures and flavours, does anyone know where I can find these macarons outside of random market days?

Although we were heading to our dessert destination, I couldn’t help but stop by an ice-cream place that I was told about earlier that day. Lic Gelato has been opened since the beginning of the year (how have I not heard about them sooner?!) and share their location with Braddon Crust pizzas. They make all their gelatos on the premises and my eyes lit up when I saw just how many flavours they had. I managed to convince myself, ‘just a small something for the walk to our next restaurant reservation’ and with that we went on a taste testing rampage.

The woman was very friendly and generous and we had up to 7 taste testers before we decided on an actual flavour: salted caramel; French vanilla burnt caramel; rockmelon; watermelon; Lindor chocolate and cookies and cream. Salted caramel won our hearts although it was getting harder to decide with every new flavour we tried. 1 scoop in a small cup was $4.00 and Timmy had to tell the lady to stop filling the already overflowing cup, which has never happened before!

It is a brilliant little establishment with friendly generous staff opened from 7am - 10pm 7days. Go check them out!

Ok I wasn’t alone and technically it was a cheeseburger.

When I met up with friends last night to discuss details of our Japan trip, I might have eaten a speckle too much and on the verge of burping aioli all night but I did it in the name of research - which is best burger at Brodburger?

I thought to myself- why should I always order the same burger when I haven’t tried them all and established a true favourite? All the boys had already set their hearts on a brodchicken and I’ve already had a brodchicken so they were of no use to me. I was able to convince Anita to go halves in two burgers with me- brodburger with brie (its the one I usually get and was a backup for my tastebuds if I really didn’t like the others) and brodbattered fin and then also try a baby brodveggie on the side.

Now I’m a big red meat eater through and through but I much preferred the brodbattered fin over my brodburger and because I’m such a big fan of haloumi and eggplant, I think I might have even enjoyed the brodveggie the most (I’m surprised just as much as you)!

So just remember, just because you thought you hit the jackpot by liking the first thing you tried, you could still be missing out, but if you try something different and you don’t like it as much… Well I take no responsibility for that.

During a lazy cold Friday, my friends and I were trying to decide where to go for a low key, simple non Asian dinner (we had many dumplings and bowls of rice for lunch). For some reason I was drawing a blank until late in the afternoon a light bulb went off in my head - Wilbur’s in Hackett. I had heard wonderful things about Wilbur’s atmosphere, service and most of all their PIZZA!

We were greeted with a friendly face and although we didn’t reserve a table they were able to sit us down and set us up with menus and water very promptly. They had a whole board full of reasonably priced delicious options but I was here for pizzas and I didn’t need to add more choices to an already very vast list of pizza toppings.

Garlic pizza - shaved parmesan cheese, drizzled with olive oil ($9.90). A perfect entree with garlic and cheesey goodness.

When we asked the waitress what her favourite pizza was, she said the Artisan without any hesitation, so obviously that had to be one of the choices.

Artisan (right) - garlic, artichoke, fresh basil, bocconcini, pepperoni ($17.90)

Wilbur’s Way (left) - chorizo, mushroom, capsicum, olives ($16.90)

We couldn’t pick a favourite, both had a delicious base, not overly oily and had a nice mix of flavours and they weren’t heavy handed with the ingredients. I can see why people come here for the food.

Some of us weren’t content leaving without dessert so we did the girly thing and shared several cakes between us.

Chocolate mud and Lime coconut cake. Your typical ‘cafe cakes’, nothing too special. I felt the chocolate mud could have been served warm for a better outcome but the lime and coconut cake was very moist with a clear refreshing lime zest.

Wilbur’s has a great staff service with a diverse atmosphere, sporting a fire place for a more intimate setting at the back and giant TVs for sport enthusists at the front. No matter where you are in the cafe bar, everyone seemed to be having a good time and enjoying their meal.
